What is Sinus Lifting?
Sinus lifting, also known as sinus augmentation, is a surgical procedure aimed at increasing the amount of bone in the upper jaw, especially in the molar and premolar regions. This procedure is often required for individuals who need dental implants but have insufficient bone height in their upper jaw due to bone loss or the natural shape of the sinus cavity. The goal of the sinus lift procedure is to elevate the floor of the sinus and create space for bone grafts, which, in turn, will hopefully allow for the successful placement of dental implants.
Why is Sinus Lifting Required?
Sinus lifting is usually recommended when there is not enough bone in the upper jaw to support a dental implant. This could be due to one or many factors, such as loss of teeth, periodontal disease, or the natural thinning of the bone tissue with age. In that case, the sinus cavity might have expanded into the area where the implant would be placed. This is done by lifting the sinus floor and placing additional bone graft material on the floor, thus helping to rebuild the bone structure necessary for holding dental implants in place.
Advantages and Recovery
The main benefit of a sinus lift procedure is that patients with insufficient bone who otherwise are not candidates for dental implants have a second opportunity to restore both form and function. This dramatically improves the outcome of placing dental implants in the upper jaw. This period usually runs for months as the graft must be completely integrated into the tissue before implantation. A very slight post-operative swelling and pain may result that may be easily controlled by prescribed pain medications. Proper post-operative care and following all the recommendations provided by the dentist will definitely contribute to smooth healing.

General dentistry encompasses a wide range of dental services aimed at maintaining oral health and preventing dental issues. It includes routine dental check-ups, cleanings, X-rays, fillings, and other basic dental procedures.
It is generally recommended to visit a general dentist at least twice a year for regular check-ups and cleanings. However, the frequency of visits may vary depending on individual oral health needs and any specific concerns.
During a routine dental check-up, the dentist will examine your teeth, gums, and mouth for signs of decay, gum disease, or other oral health issues. X-rays may be taken to detect any hidden problems. The dentist will also perform a professional cleaning to remove plaque and tartar buildup, and may provide guidance on proper oral hygiene practices.
