Quote of Dr. Berat Clinic
These are two different cosmetic surgical procedures undertaken for the restoration of the appearance and functionality of the breasts. A short overview of each is presented below.
Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
Objective: The elevation and firming of the Sagging breasts are done to enhance the contour and positioning of the breasts.
Methods
Incision Techniques: Incisions are made around the areola, vertically down to the fold of the breast, or sometimes in an anchor shape around the areola and along the fold of the breast, depending on the level of sagging.
Skin Removal: Excess skin is being removed and the remaining skin is tightened.
Repositioning: Nipples and areolas are repositioned upward in a more youthful location.
Shaping: The breast tissue is reshaped to give a firmer and more elevated appearance.
Benefits
More desirable and higher-placed breast shape.
More youthful and symmetrical appearance.
Considerations
Ideal for those whose breasts have sagged or drooped due to pregnancy, weight loss, or aging.
Does not change the size of the breasts very much.
Breast Reduction
Objective: To reduce the size and volume of the breasts to eliminate physical discomfort and provide a better proportion and appearance.
Methods
Incision Techniques: Reduction surgery typically involves incisions around the areola, vertically down to the breast fold, and along the fold itself. The exact technique may vary based on the amount of reduction needed.
Tissue Removal: Excess breast tissue, fat, and skin are removed.
Repositioning: Reshape the remaining tissue, and the nipple and areola are elevated to a higher, more appropriate location.
Benefits
Alleviates physical symptoms related to back, neck, and shoulder indentations from bra straps.
Improves overall breast contour and balance in relation to the body.
Considerations
The best candidates are those in whom very large breasts will cause discomfort or low self-esteem.
Breast reduction may affect future breastfeeding and/or sensation of the nipple-areola complex.
Combined Procedures
Goal: To address both excessive volume and drooping in single surgery.
Method
Integration: Lifting may also be combined with reduction for a patient desiring a reduction in breast size, while at the same time restoring elevation and reshaping of the breasts.
Considerations
Consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon is crucial to determine the best approach and discuss goals, anatomy, and potential risks.
Recovery time is variable but generally includes some swelling and bruising, with a gradual return to normal activities.
Both aim at increasing comfort and enhancing aesthetics; however, they address different concerns. A consultation with a qualified surgeon will best determine which procedure or combination of procedures will suit your needs.
