Laparoscopic myomectomy is a minimally invasive surgical treatment for uterine fibroids. The operation does not require one large incision in the abdomen, which is typical of an open surgery; rather, it requires small cuts. A slender, lighted tube that is fitted with a camera, known as a laparoscope, is inserted through the incisions, thereby giving the surgeon clear visual access to view the fibroids and remove them.
These are the benefits compared to open surgery: smaller cuts, less pain, faster recovery time, and less visible scarring. The other big advantage of laparoscopic myomectomy over hysterectomy is that it doesn't impinge upon the fertility of a woman.
Laparoscopic myomectomy often is indicated in symptomatic uterine fibroids such as heavy bleeding, pelvic pain, or other problems.
